Of all of the places in your home, your bathroom is often the last place you might decide to fix up. But when faucets and cabinets start to show wear and tear, perhaps it’s time to upgrade and turn your bathroom into the oasis you’ve always wanted. Here are some excellent ideas for giving your bathroom a completely new look.
Why your bathroom needs an upgrade?
There are endless reasons why your bathroom needs to be upgraded, but the most common reason is that the plumbing might be showing signs of aging with leaky and drippy faucets or running water in the toilet. If you don’t have proper ventilation the amount of moisture can cause wall paint to crack and peel, or wallpaper starts to come up along the edges and corners.
It simply can be that cabinet and storage space aren’t fitting to your needs and you’re having a hard time stocking your bathroom with the supplies you need regularly. On top of that, your shower or bath is outdated and isn’t providing the level of modern comfort that everyone else has in their home. You may not enjoy the lack of proper lighting and feel your bathroom is too dark or too harsh for your liking.
Some tasks are easier than others but for the most part, you can upgrade any of these items in a single weekend making any of these the perfect weekend warrior projects.
Change the color
Your bathroom can always use a fresh coat of paint so choose one that is lively and fun. You may also want to add splashes of artwork to make empty-looking walls appear more interesting. Another thing that can make a big difference is refinishing the cabinetry by staining them.
Switch the faucets and hardware
Boring or faulty faucets are easily switched using the right tools so you can have modern-looking water faucets. The same also applies to handles, towel racks, cabinet pulls or knobs, and anything else that gives a decorative touch.
Switch to lighting controls
Lighting kids these days allow you to control the lighting using simple remote controls. These new LED lights are also compatible with your smartphone and some even work through SIRI and other smart home voice-activated devices.
Add new tile or wallpaper
Old cracked tiles can be removed and new ones put up in very little time. This can give shower spaces new life and wall tiles more decorative elegance. If you have bare walls, tiles are the perfect accent to reduce moisture problems. You can also upgrade tile flooring to match new sections on the walls.
Add space-saving cabinets
Most home improvement centers sell hanging cabinets so you can organize all of your toiletries and bathroom supplies. A standing shoe cabinet is an excellent organizer that doubles as a space saver when there is less room along the length of an empty wall. There are portable hangers for the back of bathroom doors that make space-saving shelves right away.
Install venting fans
Vent fans aren’t very difficult if you have power-cutting tools to cut through portions of the wall so moisture can be vented away. These fan kits can be found at any home improvement center and are easy to plug in provided you have access to the same wiring that powers the lights.
Update your toilet
A new toilet sounds hard to install but there are several how-to videos online that show you the process from start to finish. New toilets can also save you more money on water usage and help beautify your bathroom even further.
Install a spa tub
An old bathtub that is getting cracked and rusty is an eyesore, so they do sell special paint kits for porcelain tubs. The other alternative is to spend the extra money buying a new tub that gives you more options for bathing such as a spa tub setup. These newer tubs are made from composite plastics that are easy to lift with a little extra help.
Install a better medicine cabinet
Old medicine cabinets usually double for having a mirror that hides the cabinet itself. Find a larger cabinet that makes your bathroom look larger and cut the opening where the older cabinet was to allow your new cabinet to fit in the same space.
